Finnish Course

The Finnish language is one of my most interesting languages, for two reasons. Firstly, I heard about the difficulties of the Finnish language that gives me a sense of challenge. Secondly, I have been here for a long time and everyday I am hearing people around me talking Finnish, but I’m able to catch only a few words from them. This happened to me for the first time in my life and I think that is because I have been using English, and most of people here can speak English fluently.

I registered for an intensive Finnish course a month ago and I have been studying for 3 weeks. In the beginning, I noticed the Finnish language is easy in writing and pronunciation, even easier than English language, because it doesn’t have silent letters or different pronunciation for the same letter. You write what you pronounce. However, it is rich in grammar, which is necessary in every sentence to understand the speaker.

In Finnish language every group of words have their own grammar. The word (verb or noun) changing depends on its meaning and it is position in the sentence. In addition, it has a lot of suffixes and prepositions to add to the end of words which make it into a new form. Sometimes I’m also I surprised by the length of certain words. Once when I counted, a word was 21 letters long.

Anyway, I keep on learning the Finnish language. I have saved more than 200 words until now, and I hope I will not forget them soon, so I am looking for Finnish friends to practice the language with.
