Two weeks ago, I practiced the Finnish language in EKOenergy, which is a network of environmental organizations.

Actually, their main goal is encouraging people to use 100% renewable, sustainable energy in which they try to contribute in protecting the environment.

During my practicing period, one of the EKOenergy activities was a POW campaign (Protect Our Winter) to contribute humbly against the climate change. It was a good idea to choose this place for practicing the Finnish language.

One reason to this is that I could have a look at how the real work is going on. In addition, I practiced my Finnish language speaking ability with Finns by talking with their staff, and by attending meetings.

I also really enjoyed participating in an activity on the environment as it is an important subject that is ignored around the world despite the massive impact and apparent quick development that has occurred over these last years according to UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change).

On language side, I feel that a good experience like this should be repeated more than once, and I hope to meet more local people who would enjoy speaking the Finnish language with me. I thank the EKOenergy and its staff for giving me a chance to practice the language and for their good hospitality.

One of the immigrants,

Ammar Al-Kaysi
